Thursday Evening Big Book Study Telemeeting
Welcome to the 4:30 pm Pacific Time Big Book Study Telemeeting. Now let’s take a period of silence to meditate and invite Higher Power to our meeting. We’ll follow that with the Set Aside Prayer
(or a suitable prayer such as Serenity Prayer).
The Set Aside Prayer
God, Please help me set aside everything I think I know
about my disease, the 12 steps, and especially You;
So I may have an open mind and a new experience with all these things.
Please let me see the truth.
In order to help keep the lines clear, please mute your phone by pressing *6.
To paraphrase the foreword of the First Edition of the Big Book:
(ask for a volunteer:)
WE OF Sex Addicts Anonymous are more that one hundred men and women who have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. To show other sex addicts precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book. For them we hope these pages will prove so convincing that no further authentication will be necessary. We think this account of our experiences will help everyone better understand the sex addict. Many do not comprehend that the sex addict is a very sick person. And besides, we are sure that our way of living has its advantages for all.
Hello, everyone. My name is _________ and I am a (recovered) sex addict. Our Group Conscience has elected to use the Big Book of A.A. as its basic text for sobriety from sex addiction. Time and experience have proven it to be the most successful approach to the Steps no matter what the addictive problem may be. More importantly, this is what worked for us. The purpose of this meeting is to learn from the Big Book how to live unselfishly today.
The study leader is responsible for keeping the meeting focused on the Big Book passages and can interrupt for that purpose. If you find yourself saying “I” or “me”, you may be getting off track. We can talk about our personal stories at the end of the meeting. Our Primary Purpose is to find the message of hope that leads the suffering sex addict to take the next step forward
There will be fellowship after the meeting. If you are new, coming back, or have questions, please stick around, we really would like to get to know you better. Members from this group who are willing to sponsor will announce their names and phone numbers. (For the Speaker Meeting, see appendix A)
If you don’t have a Big Book and would like to follow along, go to aa.org/bigbookonline or SAAPP.org under Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and select the chapter or page number of today’s reading.
________ will be our study leader tonight. They will be using the Dallas SAA PPG Big Book Study Guide to better understand the selected passages from our sobriety instruction manual. ________ will read a question and call upon a member to read the next sentence out of the Big Book which is designed to be the answer.
(now turn it over to the study leader)
My name is _________, and I am a sex addict. I’ll be your study leader this evening. Before we begin our study we are going to review a Tradition. This weeks Tradition is ___ and I’ve asked ______ to read the long form of the Tradition followed by the short form and to offer some comments.
We will begin our study on page ___. That will be in Chapter _______. (When opening each paragraph for comments, say,
“Let’s open that paragraph up for comment on the precise instructions it contains.”)
Our 7th Tradition states that every group ought to be fully self supporting declining outside contributions. This is important. If you wish to contribute even a dollar, you can make a contribution to our PayPal account to help those with financial barriers, or find some other unselfish way today to make somebody’s life better.
The most important symbol of our willingness is a desire chip, which signifies our desire to let Higher Power stop our addictive sexual behaviors for good and for all, one day at a time. Would anyone like to begin, or recommit to their journey tonight or share their recovery blessings with us?
Our group conscience believes that the place to check-in or get current is with your sponsor. The Primary Purpose program requires a sponsor for daily inventory. If you need a sponsor, we can help. Will those members of Thursday Group who have taken these steps by the directions in the Big Book and had the promised spiritual awakening, please announce your names and
Please take advantage of the Dallas SAA PPG website for the Big Book based resources for sobriety from sex addiction.
Are there any prayer requests?
Let’s have a moment of silence for these and the addict who still suffers followed by (choose an appropriate closing prayer) or a prayer of your own choosing said in silence.
Now it’s time for fellowship. Please be careful of you decide to give out personal information .
Are there any newcomers on the call?
